Gear Guide

One of the most intimidating things about getting your kids outside is what to dress them in. We are here to help you navigate the clothing options for the seasons and direct you to companies that sell quality outdoor gear for your little ones. Below we will break down seasonal outfits to keep your children comfortable.

Layering is SO important for dressing for the outdoors! This is the layering system explained:

Base layer- This layer keeps you warm and dry and is next to skin. It’s best to use synthetics or wools because they wick moisture away from the body. Avoid cottons because it will hold onto moisture and will extract heat from the body. This can become dangerous in the winter.

Mid-Layer- This adds insulation and keeps warmth in during cold months. Fleece or quilted clothing is a great mid-layer.

Outer layer- This layer will keep the elements out, such as wind and water. You want this layer to be durable. Typical waterproof rain sets are a great outer layer.

One forest school outfit per season is all you need! Students are encouraged to come to school wearing the same thing every day!

*Please send ALL items & clothing labeled with your child’s name. It’s difficult to designate a lost & found area in the forest, and we want all of your child’s belongings to return safely home!
